NEWCASTLE defender Jonathan Woodgate will miss the conclusion of his side’s Barclaycard Premiership and UEFA Cup campaigns after it was confirmed his thigh muscle is torn.

The 24-year-old England international limped off late in Sunday's 2-1 home win over Chelsea and manager Bobby Robson immediately feared the worst.

Yesterday it was revealed the injury is a tear and will sideline Newcastle's most accomplished defender for their four remaining league games as well as their UEFA Cup semi-final, second leg clash with Marseille and the final should they progress.
