Reid needs x-ray on ankle

BLACKBURN’S Republic of Ireland midfielder Steven Reid needs a precautionary X-ray on his ankle after he was injured during a friendly at Preston.

Reid, a £2.5m capture from Millwall, twisted his ankle during the 1-0 win, achieved courtesy of new signing Paul Dickov’s first-half goal.

However, defender Craig Short is set to return to action. Short has not featured in the last two games after picking up an injury but assistant boss Alan Murray confirmed the 36-year-old is to return.

Murray said: “We’ve a reserve game against Chester City on Monday and the game at Ewood against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night and Craig Short will certainly feature in one of those.”

New signing Javier de Pedro is also set to play a part in the game against the Portuguese side as he makes his comeback from a slight thigh strain.
