United on alert as Ballack holds talks

MANCHESTER UNITED target Michael Ballack will meet Bayern Munich officials later this month even though it is highly unlikely he will commit his future to the Bundesliga giants.

Ballack’s contract is due to expire in the summer and Bayern officials are desperate to tie the Germany skipper down to a lucrative four-year extension which so far remains unsigned.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has demanded to know whether Ballack intends to stay and has vowed to force a final answer from the 29-year-old during talks pencilled in for a fortnight’s time.
