TOTTENHAM striker Teddy Sheringham wants to continue his England career at the age of 36 if he can persuade Sven-Goran Eriksson to pick him for the start of the Euro 2004 qualifying campaign.

Sheringham knows he faces an uphill battle to fend off the challenge of younger strikers such as Alan Smith of Leeds and West Ham’s Jermain Defoe.

‘‘It’s a situation where I enjoy playing for England and you are a long time finished,’’ Sheringham said.
