Great night for Italy as Milan and Juventus go goal crazy
Dutch midfielder Seedorf broke the deadlock at the Riazor when he struck home from 20 metres after good work from Rui Costa and former Deportivo player Rivaldo.
With Rivaldo and Rui Costa at the helm, the five-times European champions began to take control of the midfield and extended their lead shortly after the half-hour mark when Inzaghi pounced to grab his first.
Inzaghi added a third 10 minutes after the break when he snapped home a precise pass from Costa and the Milan marksman completed his hat-trick with a crisp finish six minutes later.
Milan’s stranglehold on the game rarely looked in danger and an increasingly desperate Deportivo were restricted to a series of long-range efforts in a vain attempt to claw their way back.
It was a great night for Juventus and Marco Di Vaio who scored twice as the Turin side as they crushed Ukrainians Dynamo Kiev 5-0 in Newcastle’s Group E. Di Vaio gave Juve the lead in the 14th minute when he headed home a corner from Alessandro Del Piero to claim his first goal since joining the Turin club from Parma. Eight minutes later Dynamo’s young Romanian Tiberiu Ghioane was caught in possession by Mauro Camoranesi, who slipped a pass across to Del Piero to convert with the minimum of fuss.
Di Vaio added his second, and Juve’s third, with another header in the 52nd minute from a Pavel Nedved cross.
Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids made it 4-0 jinking past three defenders before firing home a left-foot shot before Nedved completed the rout with a thundering drive in the 79th minute.
RC Lens held Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in Group G. Bayern, beaten 3-2 by Deportivo Coruna the previous week, went in front with a goal from defender Thomas Linke , who headed home a free-kick from Brazilian striker Ze Roberto in the 23rd minute.
But Lens, who lost 2-1 at AC Milan last week, never looked outclassed and youthful striker John Utaka equalised in the 76th minute, heading in a corner from Papa Bouba Diop.
