Leeds play down sheikh move

LEEDS have played down speculation the club is to receive a cash injection from multi-millionaire Sheikh Al-Khalifa. The sheikh, one of the wealthiest men in the United Arab Emirates, attended Sunday’s Premiership game against Newcastle at Elland Road but the club insist no deals have been made.

Leeds are looking for fresh investment to control debts of around £80million. A statement released to the stock exchange read: “Leeds United plc notes press speculation regarding Sheikh Al-Khalifa. As with all Leeds United fans, Sheikh Al-Khalifa is concerned regarding Leeds financial position and took the opportunity of his visit to discuss this, but no proposals have been made.”
