Lampard on FIFA short-list

CHELSEA’S Frank Lampard is one of three names on the shortlist for FIFA’s world player of the year award.

The Chelsea midfielder is up against Barcelona’s Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o following the voting for the prestigious accolade.

Ronaldinho pipped Lampard for the Ballon d’Or award this week so the England international will be hoping to go one better at the glitzy gala in Zurich on December 19.

Lampard has enjoyed a fine year, winning the Premiership title and emerging as a key figure for club and country.

Meanwhile, Arturo Lupoli (Arsenal), Guiseppe Rossi (Man Utd), Jerome Thomas (Charlton), Ben Watson (Crystal Palace), Charles N’Zogbia (Newcastle) and Stephen Davis (Aston Villa) have been nominated for the Carling Cup New Talent Award. The winner - voted for by supporters - will receive a trophy on the day of the final, February 26, 2006.
