Anelka goes to Fenerbahce for £7m
City are believed to have accepted an offer in the region of £7 million following a day of protracted negotiations.
Anelka is on his way to Istanbul in a bid to thrash out personal terms with the Turkish club.
A City spokesman said: "Manchester City and Fenerbahce have agreed a fee for the transfer of Nicolas Anelka. The club will make no further comment until the transfer is complete."
The 25-year-old has not played for City since New Year's Day and it recently became evident he had no part to play in Kevin Keegan's future plans.
Anelka joined City for £13 million from Paris St Germain in July 2002.
Tottenham were hot on the trail of four new signings yesterday but, despite the new arrivals, manager Martin Jol laughed off suggestions Robbie Keane could be on the way out. Shaking his head, he said: "That's just speculation."
Spurs are prepared to wait until the summer to capture Crystal Palace winger Wayne Routledge. The club failed with two bids for Routledge, aged 20, and Palace boss Iain Dowie said this week he hopes he has seen the last of any interest from White Hart Lane in this transfer window after spurning the latest £2m offer. However, the 18-month loan signing of Egypt striker Mido from Roma and the capture of Mounir El Hamdaoui on a three-and-a-half-year contract from Excelsior Rotterdam, are close to being finalised.
Spurs announced yesterday that Auxerre's Finland midfielder Teemu Tainio will join them in the summer after he signed a pre-contract agreement, and 30-year-old Czech Republic goalkeeper Radek Cerny is having transfer talks with the north London club.
Routledge has refused to renew his Palace contract, which expires at the end of the season, and Jol said he was happy to leave the matter until the summer.
Tainio, who has been capped 25 times by Finland and scored five goals for his country, began his career at FC Haka in Finland before joining Auxerre where he has made more than 150 appearances.
Meanwhile Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley was in limbo last night as he awaited an improved bid from his boyhood heroes, Celtic. However, the Glasgow giants, who yesterday handed a trial to Cameroon international defender Bill Tchato and are in talks with Marcin Burkhardt, were also having to play a waiting game with target Stephane Henchoz still to make a decision.
Hartley is anxious for a move to Parkhead, but should not be surprised if his dream move collapses as Celtic again have left their negotiations close to the transfer deadline. Celtic have had a £200,000 bid rejected for the well-travelled 28-year-old, but they are expected to increase their offer although they will be reluctant to go near the £500,000 Hearts want.
Liverpool defender Henchoz is close to a decision, but other names in the frame are Poland's Burkhardt and Tchato.
