WAYNE ROONEY is unlikely to face any disciplinary action from the Football Association over the alleged spitting incident during the Merseyside derby.

Spitting allegations don’t wash

The FA has received the report from referee Paul Durkin and it is understood that no action will be taken against Everton’s 17-year-old striker.

The decision will draw a line under the incident following Tuesday’s announcement by Merseyside police that they will not take any official action against the teenager.

Several fans had complained Rooney spat in the direction of Liverpool supporters during Saturday’s match at Goodison Park.

He had been subjected to a continuous barrage of abuse from rival supporters and though he was filmed by television cameras spitting, it was on the grass in the middle of the pitch.
