U21's put icing on the cake with historic victory in Madeira

THE Republic of Ireland made history yesterday as they claimed their first ever tournament title at U-21 level winning the Madeira International Tournament after a dramatic 4-0 victory over Madeira on the final day.

Ireland knew that they would need a good result to boost their goal difference to see off Portugal who faced Italy after Ireland's game. But while Ireland rattled in four goals, Portugal could only score twice to make Ireland the tournament victors.
