POLICE are investigating claims that England striker Wayne Rooney assaulted a taunting fan in a nightclub brawl.

Greater Manchester Police said they are to launch inquiries after a 22-year-old man made a formal complaint of assault against Rooney.

It is alleged that the 19-year-old hit a tudent at Tiger Tiger bar in Manchester when the man confronted him about his move from Everton last year.
