Need for immediate change basis for Menton's decision

THE FAI’s general secretary, Brendan Menton, last night stressed that his decision to step down from the key administrative position was geared to hasten the implementation of the Genesis evaluation report.

Menton dismissed suggestions that there was anything in the report that was critical of his personal performance in the FAI's management of their World Cup strategy, and said his withdrawal from the post six months before the end of his contract was influenced by the need for immediate change within the organisation.

Inevitably, Menton will be viewed in some quarters as the first victim of a report that was critical of the FAI management of international affairs in many areas but that was not necessarily the case.
