MANCHESTER United fans angered by the defeat in Lisbon couldn’t wait to get into that virtual-reality pub, the internet message board, to vent their spleens upon each other yesterday morning.

I stumbled across a corner of Red Issues’s website and found one poor soul plaintively asking: “so, has anyone got any GOOD news today or what?”

Came the instant reply: “Yeah - John O’Pie’s done his hamstring.” Another: “do you think there’s any chance of anyone taking him off our hands in the transfer window?”
