Wiekens resigned to life after Manchester City

DUTCH defender Gerard Wiekens has admitted he is already planning for life away from Manchester City next season.

Wiekens’ contract expires in the summer and after just one senior start this term, he does not expect it to be renewed.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Ipswich, now managed by ex-Blues boss Joe Royle, who signed Wiekens for £500,000 in 1997.

However, Wiekens revealed that no offer has been received.

Wiekens’ only senior action came in the second leg of the UEFA Cup qualifier with TNS back in August.

Wiekens said he would consider a move within England or a transfer back to Holland when the season comes to a close.
