Birmingham pip Celtic to sign Yorke

BIRMINGHAM had the last word on transfer deadline day as they pipped Celtic for the signature of Blackburn striker Dwight Yorke.

Yorke has fallen out of favour at Ewood Park this season where manager Graeme Souness appears to favour a forward line of Scotland international Paul Dickov and Jon Stead.

That allowed Steve Bruce to step in and land the 32-year-old for a “substantial but undisclosed fee,” with Yorke being handed a one-year deal with the option of another 12 months.
