Best’s losing streak

Short odds in any bookies to be listed among soccer’s greats, George Best’s efforts as a tipster saw him score a losing hat-trick in the European Championships at the weekend.

Best’s losing streak

The soccer legend placed a bet with Boylesports Bookmakers and nominated Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin to benefit from any proceeds.

Boylesports had given the former Manchester United star €500 for the charity bet and the legendary footballer put €250 on France and €250 on Sweden to win Euro 2004. Both countries were eliminated.

Best then made it a hat-trick of misses by tipping Denmark to surprise the Czech Republic in Sunday’s game. He proved to be way off the mark, the Czechs winning 3-0.

Boylesports, however, have said they will donate the money staked on the bet to the hospital.
