Edu happy to extend stay at Highbury

ARSENAL midfielder Edu is set to sign an extension to his contract before the start of the season.

The 26-year-old played in Brazil’s winning Copa America team and is currently resting before the start of the domestic campaign.

The former Corinthians player attracted interest from Barcelona last season after a string of impressive performances and his contract expires next summer, but he is looking to stay at Highbury.

Edu said: “A lot of people know that my contract with Arsenal ends in 2005.

“But I want to confirm that I’m happy at Arsenal, nicely settled in.

“They’re a great club and my thoughts are on staying.”

“Without doubt this last year was my best at Arsenal,” he said.

“When I arrived at the club the season was already under way and it was hard to adapt. In my second season we won the FA Cup and the Premier League, I became more a part of the team. Since then my performances have improved.”
