RTÉ: no plans for Sports Stadium return, despite live afternoon football

RTÉ have no plans to re-launch Sports Stadium, even though live Premiership football returns to the station next month.

The State broadcaster will carry 15 live Premiership games next season on Saturday afternoons, the first such service on terrestrial television in 10 years. However, they are not about to resurrect the format which was a mainstay of weekends for more than 20 years.

“RTÉ don’t have any plans to return to the old Sports Stadium format,” station spokesperson Richie Ryan said yesterday.
