The Reds were undone by goals from Dougie Freedman and Marco Reich, while Liverpool's strikers continued to struggle for form and were unable to profit from the intelligent midfield play of captain Steven Gerrard, who played for the first time since sustaining a shin injury in England's win over Austria earlier this month.

Gerrard had equalised for the Barclays Premiership side shortly before half-time, but Reich's winner means the Reds are without an away win in English football this season.
