Win would be Sporting chief’s finest hour

SPORTING LISBON boss Jose Peseiro has admitted tonight’s UEFA Cup quarter-final clash with Newcastle could be the most important victory of his career.

Win would be Sporting chief’s finest hour

The man dubbed 'the new Jose Mourinho' will send his side out at the Jose Alvalade Stadium the venue for the final trailing 1-0 from the first leg and knowing that one flick from Alan Shearer could send his side out of the competition.

However, Peseiro believes his side can book a semi-final place against AZ Alkmaar or Villarreal.

"We know it will be difficult, but we will do our best to be here for the final," he said.

"I hope we will get a full stadium and all the help from our supporters that will bring."

When asked whether progression to the next round would be his biggest achievement, he said: "If we get through, yes, mainly because we are aiming at this final at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. It is our main motivation.

"Even if we concede a goal and I do not believe we will please keep believing because I am sure we will come back even if we concede a goal."
