Bowyer set to stay with Newcastle

LEE BOWYER looks set to stay at Newcastle after Freddy Shepherd and Graeme Souness released a joint statement praising the recent attitude of the controversial midfielder.

The 28-year-old scored a stunning away goal in the Magpies’ 2-1 defeat against Deportivo La Coruna in the Intertoto Cup semi-final first leg in Spain on Wednesday.

Bowyer, who had seemed set for a summer exit following an on-pitch incident with team-mate Kieron Dyer in April, has said he wants to stay at St James’ Park.
