Del Neri to replace Voeller at Roma

ROMA have agreed terms with former Chievo Verona coach Luigi Del Neri.

Del Neri will replace German Rudi Voeller who resigned on Sunday after less than a month in charge of the Serie A club.

He will become the third coach at Roma since Fabio Capello quit the club to take over at Juventus in May.

Capello’s replacement Cesare Prandelli stood down for family reasons in August and was replaced by former Germany coach Voeller who quit after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Bologna.

Del Neri has also had a strange summer. He left Chievo at the end of last season and moved to European champions Porto but his spell in Portugal came to an end before the season had even begun.

He was sacked in August for what Porto called “personal reasons” with local media saying the club were unhappy at the amount of time the coach was continuing to spend in Italy.

Del Neri took Chievo from Serie B into the top flight for the first time in their history and established them in the top half of Serie A, winning plaudits for the way he got the most out of players with modest backgrounds.
