Romanian FA boss backs Mutu in row

ROMANIAN FA chief Mircea Sandu has weighed into the war between Adrian Mutu and Jose Mourinho, telling the Chelsea manager his orders carry no weight in Romania.

Mutu is in open conflict with the Chelsea boss and faces a possible £125,000 fine for defying Mourinho and playing for Romania this week.

Sandu says he has not bothered to read a fax from Chelsea warning about Mutu’s fitness.

“I did get a fax but didn’t read it. I can see Mutu is training normally and I do not care what Chelsea think. You think here we do what Mourinho says? We have our own business to take care of.”

If Mutu is fined Sandu said he would lodge a protest with FIFA, adding: “This is not normal. The whole situation has got out of hand. Chelsea are the ones who did not take care of Mutu and a fine is pointless.”

Mutu has been a national hero in Romania since the row broke out, and he remains defiant.

“I took a risk by coming to the national team and I simply do not care how many fines I receive. I did what I felt was right for me and for the national team.

“Their refusal to let me join the national team is neither fair nor moral.”
