Houllier: We’re years behind United

LIVERPOOL chief Gerard Houllier has admitted his side are still years behind arch-rivals and Premiership-winners Man Utd — despite beating them in the Worthington Cup final.

Having seen their north-west neighbours clinch their eighth Premier League title and both United and Arsenal progress further in the Champions League the Reds did not get past the first round the Anfield boss knows he still has much to do.

A lot will depend on Sunday's winner-takes-all clash at Stamford Bridge where victory over Chelsea will guarantee a return to Champions League football. However, failure means the lesser rewards of the UEFA Cup.
