PORTSMOUTH have tabled a club record bid, thought to be more than £2m, for West Ham’s England midfielder Michael Carrick.

And Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric is also ready to pick up the tab for adding Blackburn striker Dwight Yorke to a squad which manager Harry Redknapp fears would be fighting a Premiership relegation battle next season without new blood.

Redknapp has so far only managed to sign Lomana LuaLua for £1.8m and free transfer pair David Unsworth and Andy Griffin.
