BRIAN KERR, the most successful manager of Ireland’s underage soccer teams, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the job as manager of the Irish senior team.

After weeks of speculation about who should be appointed to the job, following Mick McCarthy’s resignation from the Irish manager's post, , Kerr has become the first to officially announce his intention to pursue Irish soccer’s top job.

Other candidates, such as John Aldridge, have said they would like the job, but Kerr is the first man to announce that he has applied to succeed McCarthy.
