EVERTON have wrapped up the £1.5m signing of Portuguese international defender Nuno Valente. The 30-year-old left-back completed a move from Porto yesterday.

Manager David Moyes made his move following the news that Alessandro Pistone is facing six months on the sidelines.

With Gary Naysmith also injured, Valente looks set to make his debut when the Premiership resumes after the international break.

Valente’s arrival follows the signing of Italian international Matteo Ferrari on a season-long loan from Roma and Dutch international Andy Van der Meyde has been undergoing a medical with a view to a move from Inter Milan.
