Savage suspended for England World Cup clash
The FAW received official confirmation from FIFA yesterday that Savage must serve a one-match ban after his sending-off against Northern Ireland last month.
FAW spokesman Ceri Stennett said: “It has been confirmed this afternoon that Robbie will serve a one match ban.
“It could have been heavier, but we would have been very disappointed if it had, and we would have no doubt protested.
“We are inevitably disappointed but Robbie has to accept it. It was not unexpected.”
The Birmingham midfielder had been considering taking legal action against world football’s governing body FIFA, as he had no right to appeal against the decision.
The red card was issued to him after a fracas early on in the game at the Millennium Stadium, when Savage reacted angrily to a challenge by Michael Hughes, though he did not appear to lash out at the Crystal Palace midfielder.
