Soccer: Telford and Gillingham the big winners
Telford were given little chance against Crewe who have been in decent form this Christmas, but the Conference side produced the goods to knock out the First Division side.
A single goal decided the game scored in the first minute by Lee Mills, who headed home from a fine Fitzroy Simpson cross.
Charlton were stunned by Gillingham, despite taking the lead just 60 seconds in when former Burnley defender Ian Cox put through his own net. The First Division side did not let their heads drop however, and levelled through Tommy Johnson before Mamady Sidibe put them ahead.
Any thoughts of a comeback were then ended when Dean Kiely failed to keep out a Paul Smith strike from range. Charlton did get a late consolation through Carlton Cole but it was too late to salvage a draw.
Kidderminster came close to causing a major shock against Premiership Wolves but were heartbroken when Alex Rae cancelled out John Williams's 77th minute goal with just 60 seconds of normal time remaining.
In an all Premiership affair Manchester City twice came from behind in a 2-2 draw against Leicester at The City of Manchester Stadium.
City old boy Paul Dickov had made himself the villain by scoring for Leicester just four minutes in, but Nicolas Anelka levelled from the penalty spot. Marcus Bent put The Foxes ahead again on 66, but Anelka again levelled for City.
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce had asked for his team to avenge a 4-0 defeat to Blackburn in the league and his men did him proud by reversing the scoreline. Clinton Morrison, Stephen Clemence, Mikael Forssell and Bryan Hughes all got their names on the score-sheet.
Bradford City bowed out after a 2-1 defeat at home to Luton Town. Adrian Forbes's brace handed Luton the victory, despite a late consolation penalty by Andy Gray.
Coventry eased through with a 2-1 victory over Peterborough. Goals from Gary McSheffrey and Julian Joachim put the Division One side in charge, with Andy Clarke scoring for Posh.
Referee Phil Prosser was a busy man as Burnley picked up a 2-0 win against Mansfield at Field Mill. Prosser sent off Jamie Clarke and Luke Dimech for the home side and Richard Chaplow for The Clarets.
Ian Moore grabbed the goals to give Burnley a morale-boosting win, but the joy of victory was tempered by a bad injury to on-loan James McEveley.
A late goal from striker Wayne Allison took last season's semi-finalists Sheffield United into the fourth round with a 1-0 win at Cardiff City.
Conference side Accrington Stanley are in the draw for the fourth round, but face a replay after being held to a 0-0 draw by Colchester. Barnsley were held to a 0-0 draw by Scunthorpe, whilst goals from Richard Naylor, Tommy Miller and Shefki Kuqi gave Ipswich an emphatic 3-0 win against Derby County.
Millwall came from behind to claim their place with a 2-1 triumph against Walsall, strikes from Kevin Braniff and Tim Cahill cancelling out an opener from Jorge Leitao.
Middlesbrough eased into the fourth round with a 2-0 win over Notts County at The Riverside. The Magpies put up an admirable display, but they were always up against it after captain Tony Barras was dismissed. Boro sealed victory with goals in each half from Joseph-Desire Job and Boudewijn Zenden.
Fredi Kanoute has been much in the news this week but ended it on a high with a tremendous hat-trick in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. Gus Poyet was dismissed and Danny Butterfield wrongly sent off after Jamie Smith up-ended Bobby Zamora.
Portsmouth needed a last gap winner from Yakubu Aiyegbeni to see off brave Blackpool at Fratton Park. Sebastian Schemmel netted only his second goal in England to put injury-hit Pompey in front with a header, but Scott Taylor replied with a well-taken effort for Steve McMahon's battlers. Gareth Evans was sent off.
Julio Arca was Sunderland's hero as they sneaked past Hartlepool in front of around 40,000 fans at The Stadium of Light. Swansea City star Lee Trundle was the two-goal hero for the Welsh side as they overcame Macclesfield Town at Vetch Field.
West Ham defeated Wigan Athletic with all the goals coming late in the all-Division One affair. Wimbledon and Stoke City must replay after a 1-1 draw in Milton Keynes. John Eustace scored after only 12 minutes to put Stoke in front, but Adam Nowland levelled matters in the second half.
Bolton gave themselves another chance of sealing passage into the fourth round of the FA Cup after Kevin Nolan's late strike rescued a 1-1 draw away to Tranmere.
