Der Kaiser shows interest in replacing Johansson
Johansson is tipped to stand down when his latest term in office ends in 2006, with Beckenbauer and former France maestro Michel Platini the early front-runners to take over.
Beckenbauer has admitted for the first time that he would be tempted by the position.
“The interest is there,” he said.
“I’ve always taken responsibility in my life and have normally let my gut feeling decide without spending too much time considering if I could fail.
“The presidency of a successful association like UEFA would be a challenge that attracts me.”
But he revealed he had no intention of standing against Johansson should the Swede choose to run for another term.
