Poborsky takes up new role

FORMER Manchester United midfielder Karel Poborsky has been named general manager of Dynamo Ceske Budejovice in his native Czech Republic.

Poborsky was transferred to the Czech second division outfit in September 2005 after a quarrel with the management of Sparta Prague and criticism towards the then coach Jaroslav Hrebik.

He has quickly become a prominent figure in Budejovice, and has a shareholding interest in the club.

He will turn out for Ceske Budejovice in the spring, but is confident that playing at a lower level will not affect his international career.

“I do not see any reason why I should be less prepared than in a top flight team,” said Poborsky, who has made the most appearances for the national team.

He is in the Czech squad for the friendly against Turkey on March 1.
