Farrelly joins Wigan on a free

REPUBLIC of Ireland international Gareth Farrelly has joined Wigan Athletic on a free transfer as he attempts to rebuild his career after a nightmare time at Bolton.

The six-times capped midfielder's contract with Premiership side Bolton Wanderers was cancelled two weeks ago by mutual consent and Wigan moved quickly to snap up Farrelly.

The 28-year-old has made 147 appearances and has played with Aston Villa and Everton his goal saved the Toffees from relegation in 1998.
