Larsson adamant he will quit Celtic at end of this season
There is still some debate over where the Swedish international will be playing this time next year after he brings his brilliant Parkhead career to a close.
But it seems certain the prolific striker will not be performing a shock U-turn and staying in Glasgow beyond next May. When asked if there was any possibility of him remaining with the Hoops, his reply was a curt “no chance”.
Tonight’s Champions League second qualifying round first leg tie with the Lithuanian champions has been overshadowed by the sudden death of their striker Audrius Slekys.
Kaunas’ answer to Larsson was killed in a car accident on Sunday and the former Feyenoord man is surprised the match was going ahead just days after the shocking news.
“It must be awful for the players and the staff here and I’m a little surprised that it wasn’t actually called off,” he said.
However, Celtic manager Martin O’Neill fears the death of Slekys could spur the Lithuanians on to a huge upset.
O’Neill said: “I would have thought his team-mates would take more than a day to get over it. Maybe it would have been a problem arranging it, but my own view is that it would spur them on.”
He has injury worries with Johan Mjallby and Joos Valgaeren fighting to be fit.
He is already without defensive giant Bobo Balde and he is keeping his fingers crossed that he will have an experienced back line available.
