McAteer completes Foxes move

McAteer has agreed a one-year contract at the Walkers Stadium after being told he could leave the Black Cats at the end of last season.

Foxes boss Micky Adams told Leicester’s website, www.lcfc.co.uk: “Jason is a player who has operated at the top level and brings a wealth of experience to the club.

“He’s an excellent player and we had to beat off a number of clubs for his signature.”

Sunderland, meanwhile, have completed the signing of central defender Steve Caldwell from arch-rivals Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal following his release from the Magpies and immediately set his sights on helping the Black Cats back to the Premiership.

“I’m delighted the move has finally gone through,” he said.
