Sheringham completes Hammers move

TEDDY SHERINGHAM yesterday completed his move to West Ham – the club he supported as a boy – and immediately set his sights on helping them return to the top flight.

The 38-year-old former England striker is not much loved by Hammers fans from his time spent at London rivals Tottenham and Millwall.

But Sheringham, who has signed a one-year contract, insists it is an honour to join the club he once watched from the terraces at Upton Park.

Sheringham rejected the chance to extend his stay at Portsmouth because the Hammers could offer him regular first team football and he also turned down a host of other suitors, including Coventry City and West Brom.

The former Manchester United striker, who has won 51 England caps, has also accepted a substantial pay cut to drop out of the top flight.
