Anelka brother quits Raith

CLAUDE ANELKA, the brother and agent of Manchester City’s French striker Nicolas, has left Raith Rovers after a miserable five-month spell as a director and head coach of the Scottish first division club.

Anelka was appointed to the dual role in May, investing around €500,000 in the club, but has been heavily criticised by fans after failing to win a match this season.

Rovers are rooted at the bottom of the standings following one draw and nine defeats from their first 10 league games and face a struggle to avoid relegation.

“It has been very hard to listen to the abuse and jeering that the fans showered upon me,” Anelka said.

Former Rovers player Gordon Dalziel has replaced Anelka as manager.
