A fraught, frenzied and ultimately foul-tempered north London spat left Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League teetering on the brink of collapse; for Spurs, glory is now within reach.
There had to be controversy, of course, and the afternoon ended with ugly accusations of lying, cheating and general skulduggery being levelled at Tottenham midfielders Michael Carrick and Edgar Davids and manager Martin Jol. But more of that later.
