SUNDERLAND are ready to step up their bid to land Blackburn striker Jon Stead after clinching their second summer signing.

Manager Mick McCarthy yesterday added 24-year-old Gillingham right-back Nyron Nosworthy to his squad after last week capturing Waterford striker Daryl Murphy in a €150,000 deal.

However, he will now turn his attention to persuading long-term target Stead that his future lies on Wearside.
