Spurs coach, skipper sorry for Cup exit

TOTTENHAM’S red-faced coach Martin Jol and skipper Ledley King have apologised to the club’s fans following their shock Carling Cup exit at the hands of Grimsby.

The League Two leaders won 1-0 with a last-minute winner from Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala to leave Spurs counting the cost of the defeat.

As well as closing one door into Europe it will hit them in the pocket, as the club had budgeted for a long run in the competition.

Jol and King said sorry to the fans who made the trip from London only to see their side humbled.

Jol said: “It was amazing to see so many Spurs fans at Grimsby.

“I hate losing because I don’t want to disappoint the supporters who are so loyal and follow us everywhere.

“We have to learn from that defeat. All our fans deserve better than we gave them last night and that’s something we all regret.”
