Spurs edge out Bolton in thriller

Bolton 3 Tottenham 4 (AET), (FT 2-2)

Fadiga, who has a history of heart problems, was taken to the dressing room for treatment by medics.

Bolton immediately claimed the Senegal star - who was due to be on the bench - had suffered an injury, as yet unspecified.

Tottenham went on to victory and secured a place in the fourth round thanks to goals from substitute Michael Brown and Jermaine Defoe in extra time.

They twice came from behind to triumph and gain revenge after being beaten in the league last Saturday.

Bolton took the lead after 27 minutes when Hierro's free kick caused confusion in the visiting defence.

Pedersen was quick to react although Tottenham defender Ledley King appeared to get the final touch, leaving Kasey Keller stranded.

Tottenham drew level a minute before the break with Defoe's first goal in a month. He turned after receiving a pass from Davies to drill a shot beyond Kevin Poole from 20 yards.

Bolton, however, regained the lead after 75 minutes, with Jay Jay Okocha scoring from the penalty spot.

He struck his effort firmly beyond Keller after Goran Bunjevcevic had tugged Kevin Davies's shirt.

Bunjevcevic made amends and pulled Spurs level at 2-2 by bundling the ball home in the 85th minute to take the game to extra time.

Tottenham took the lead for the first time in the 95th minute after sub Michael Brown headed home a Michael Carrick free kick.

Pedersen and Nicky Hunt both went close for Bolton before Defoe put Tottenham 4-2 ahead with his second goal after 103 minutes.

The drama continued right on the stroke of half-time when former Tottenham striker Ferdinand pulled one back for Bolton.

BOLTON: Poole, Hunt, Cesar, Ben Haim, Gardner, Nolan (Giannakopoulos 70), Hierro (Kaku 92), Okocha, Diouf, Davies (Ferdinand 82), Pedersen.

TOTTENHAM: Keller, Naybet, King, Pamarot, Bunjevcevic, Davies (Brown 77), Davis (Carrick 91), Pedro Mendes, Ziegler, Defoe, Kanoute (Keane 62).
