McGeough gets sack as Waterford manager

WATERFORD UNITED have sacked Jimmy McGeough as manager after two-and-a-half years in charge at the RSC.

McGeough said: “I’m very disappointed considering all we’ve been through this season.” The 60-year-old took over following Paul Power’s resignation in late 2001, guiding the club to a top half finish in the First Division in his first season. The following year, McGeough’s first full season in charge, Waterford romped away with the First Division title.

Their excellent performances won them many fans last season while McGeough also unearthed some exciting talents with Republic of Ireland U21 goalkeeper Dan Connor and Cork’s latest recruit, Neale Fenn, both proving to be exceptional signings last season.
