Black Cats set to complete Miller signing

SUNDERLAND will complete the signing of Ipswich midfielder Tommy Miller next Wednesday after he turned down more money to sign for the club he supported as a boy.

The 26-year-old is due to return from his honeymoon on Tuesday, and will complete a Bosman free transfer move the following day.

While Miller is leaving Portman Road reluctantly after turning down a new deal, the lure of Premiership football proved too strong despite firm interest from Leeds and Crystal Palace.

“This decision is not about money - he has turned down more money from elsewhere,” Miller’s father and agent, also Tommy, said.

“Subject to him passing his medical next Wednesday, he is signing for Sunderland.

“He had plenty of options, but if he was going to stay in the Championship, he would have stayed with Ipswich.

Miller will join his Ipswich colleague Kelvin Davis at Sunderland, who signed earlier on in the week.
