GARY DOHERTY yesterday pinpointed the motivational techniques of Ireland’s team manager Brian Kerr as an important feature of their success in reviving their European Championship hopes.

Doherty, Ireland's leading goalscorer in the current European Championship, helped create the winning goal against Albania on Saturday and said that Kerr's use of DVD machines and CDs had been an invaluable development in recent matches.

He revealed that the Irish squad had spent up to 15 minutes locked in a room of their hotel shortly before the match against Albania watching clips of their better moments during the current championship to a background of Irish music.
