GERARD HOULLIER left Molineux a troubled man early yesterday after seeing his Liverpool stars lose their nerve and crumble in the final moments against Wolves.

The Liverpool manager has been under scrutiny all season, his ability to deliver Champions League football and the Premiership title constantly questioned as the campaign to replace him gathers momentum.

But while his excuses may have been too readily trotted out he has never hidden.
