Spurs on song as Zamora scores

NEW Tottenham signing Bobby Zamora scored twice on his debut as his new club beat Oxford 3-0 in a pre-season friendly yesterday.

It took the striker, a £1.5m buy from Brighton, just 21 minutes to get off the mark. He latched onto a pass from Gustavo Poyet before beating Oxford goalkeeper Simon Cox.

He added a second when he darted between Cox and defender Andy Crosby in the 44th minute.

Zamora was substituted at half-time, replaced by Robbie Keane, who chipped in with a third goal when he rifled home from long range in the 63rd minute.

Carlisle United scored a 2-1 victory over St Patrick’s Athletic in the last game of their Irish tour. Richie Foran gave the Brunton Park outfit the lead in the 40th minute with his third goal in three games.

The hosts equalised in the second half but substitute Brian Wake bagged the winner for the Cumbrians.

Meanwhile, Port Vale came out on top in their friendly against non-league Newcastle Town, chalking up a 5-0 victory.
