It's the perfect time for Breen to captain Ireland, says Finnan

IRISH international Steve Finnan has supported Gary Breen's appointment as captain of the Republic of Ireland team.

The Fulham full back said he thought the move by Mick McCarthy was a positive one and he felt Breen, who joined West Ham on Monday, would do a great job.

“Gary’s big strength is communication. He’s a good talker, which for me is an essential characteristic in a captain. I’ve played alongside him at the back for Ireland a few times now and he never leaves you in any doubt where he wants you to be or where you’re going wrong. He’s never afraid to get his point across.
