Fairview stay on course for a hat-trick of Junior Cup wins

FAIRVIEW RANGERS remain on course for a third successive FAI Junior Cup success thanks to a hard earned and dramatic late win over Portmarnock at Jackman Park, Limerick, yesterday.

In what was a repeat of last season's final, Fairview dominated the first-half and Jason Purcell's free was headed inches wide after 34 minutes by Brian Buckley.

The home side went close again when Paul Harmon was denied by the visiting goalkeeper.

But Fairview were in huge trouble a minute into the second-half when Purcell was sent off and Portmarnock took control.

Twenty minutes from the end it took a great save by Fairview goalkeeper, Owen Lynch, to deny Anto Canavan.

As the game entered injury time Fairview grabbed an unlikely winner when left back, Trevor Higgins struck with his right foot from 25 yards to get the goal which puts his side into the final against another Munster side, Carrick United, from Waterford.
