United unlikely to go in search of a striker

MANCHESTER UNITED are unlikely to enter the market for a new striker before the transfer window closes - despite their injury problems.

Alex Ferguson is without Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and last week the United manager said the club were taking stock of the situation before deciding whether to sign another player.

United’s problems were clearly evident in their 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, but it is understood the club’s directors have now decided to view the situation as a short-term problem, with Diego Forlan and David Bellion able to support Alan Smith.
