Football comes first, says Keane
The Manchester United skipper believes too many of today's Premiership youngsters put money and fame over success on the field.
"I see these players all the time said Keane. "They're all making a good living but I don't want to go down that road. There's a lot of bullshit around footballers. Hopefully I won't get involved in that. I've done one or two adverts and stuff in my career and I'm okay with that when players have proved themselves.
"But what I've got a hang-up about is players who've only played 20 or 30 games and they're appearing in OK! magazine and doing adverts. I think 'You've not really done anything in football'. I feel if they really believe they're going to be top players, the other stuff will fall into place.
"I look at some players who've had a few victories and they're bragging about it. These people generally come unstuck.
"We've had a few at United who've dwelled on success too long, but you have to move on very quickly."
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy does not expect any problems with talks over his new contract at Old Trafford. The Dutch master has another two-and-a-half years left on his current contract, but United are keen to tie him to a new long-term deal.
"The talks are going very well and I am positive about the outcome," van Nistelrooy told MUTV.
"I do not expect any problems and quite probably the negotiations are going to be finished soon. I want to stay here for a long time, Gary Neville says Chelsea are still Premiership title contenders but the Manchester United defender insists Arsenal are the main danger.
"Chelsea will be title contenders, even though they have had one or two results which have dropped them off the pace. I think with the amount of players they have bought they cannot fail to be title challengers."
But he added: "I still say Arsenal are the main threat for the championship."
