Real part company with manager after winning league

REAL MADRID have decided to part company with coach Vicente del Bosque just a day after his side clinched their 29th league championship.

A meeting of the club’s board of directors, chaired by president Florentino Perez, had decided against renewing the 52-year-old’s contract as Real Madrid coach.

Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Quieroz and Porto boss Jose Mourinho are the two leading candidates to take the helm at the Bernabeu.

Del Bosque took charge of Real Madrid after the sacking of John Toshack in November 1999. In his four seasons in charge he has steered the club to two European Cups, two domestic league titles, a European Super Cup and a World Club Cup.

It also reported that captain Fernando Hierro, whose contract expires at the end of June, had failed to agree a new deal with the club.

CAMEROON clinched top spot of Group B in the Confederations Cup after they drew 0-0 with the United States in Lyon last night to set up a semi-final clash with Colombia.

In the other game of Group B, Turkey drew 2-2 with Brazil to reach the last four and will face holders France for a place in the final. Senol Gunes' side are level on points with the world champions but scored more goals.

The semi-finals will be played on Thursday with Cameroon meeting Colombia in Lyon and France taking on Turkey in Saint-Denis.
